Discovering Integrations in Transformation Programmed
4th May 2025 | Vamseekrishna Malempati
How integration can be realized from the initiation phase to design phase. It is intended for business, project and IT stakeholders who may be struggling to understand how to arrive at integration requirements.

The different phases illustrated in the figure above have been explained below.
- Project Concept: The business case or concept is defined to realize business value. This involves identifying the goals and objectives of the business case, understanding the needs of the stakeholders, and outlining the expected outcomes of the defined project or programmed.
- Business Processes: High-level business processes are defined to meet the business case and project outcome. These processes are designed to achieve the project's goals and ensure that all business needs are met for the current state and can be extended to the future state.
- Functionalities: Each business process is split into individual functionalities or capabilities needed. Each functionality is detailed to ensure that all aspects of the business process are covered and can be effectively implemented.
- Systems Involved: Systems or tools or technology are identified that will be used to implement and support the defined functionalities. This includes selecting the appropriate software, hardware, and other resources needed for the project.
- Logical Data Flow: Each business process is expanded to show the logical flow of data across systems. This includes mapping out how data will move between different systems, identifying any potential bottlenecks, and ensuring that data integrity is maintained.
- Technical Integrations: Integration touchpoints are derived from the logical data flow in business processes. These touchpoints are critical for ensuring that data moves seamlessly between systems and enabling defined functionalities and business processes.
- Integration Catalogue: A list of integrations is created, identifying the integration technology, source and target systems, message protocols, and other relevant details. This catalogue serves as a comprehensive metadata of integrations for project and the lifecycle of integrations.
These steps are not a static list, and can be modified, adapted, and even completely rewritten based on individual project needs.
Each situation could be different and needs to have a designed approach.
